Early one morning, just after dawn I was coming down off a hill where I’d camped overlooking the sea. I was walking down to a tiny coastal village along an empty road when I saw a donkey waiting at a bus stop.

.... I followed the donkey into the village. It had been waiting at the bus stop at the top of the hill but it was early, just after dawn, and clearly no bus was coming, and seeing me it decided to head on down the hill.

The cats we passed just looked on with curiosity.

The dogs were very agitated and barked and started chasing after it, recklessly snapping at its hooves.

The chickens squawked and flapped as they tried to run through the wire mesh of their enclosure, but on she trotted, oblivious, until just above the village she came to another bus stop where she stopped, and started to wait again.

The mystery of the mind of a village donkey.
