PERU & BOLIVIA, 2011

I spent 10 weeks hiking, rafting and travelling in Peru and Bolivia in May - June 2011.  It was the beginning of a 'mid life crisis' which has yet to end.

In Peru I hiked in the northern Huayhuash mountain range and rafted on the mighty Apurimac river.  In Bolivia some friends and I made our own raft and spent 10 days on the Tuichi river.

TURKEY 2020

I spent a month in Turkey during the pandemic.

For a couple of weeks I cycled in the remote valleys and the Anatolian Steppe in central Turkey which had been the home of the ancient Phrygian civilisation around the 8th - 6th century BC, of which little is known save for its legendary ruler, King Midas. The landscape is spectacular and its littered with history and neglected monuments.

Then I went south to hike some of the remote coastline on the Bozburun Peninsula, and explore the great Hellenistic and Roman remains without their usual crowds.
